resources for trash dropoff during strike

City trash and recycling collection is paused due to a union work stoppage. Street sweeping is paused too. That means for now, all of us—residents, neighbors, and businesses—need to work together to keep our blocks clean.

At Glitter, we’re here to help. We’ve created a searchable map of all city drop-off locations so you can easily find where to take your household trash and recycling. As things unfold, we’ll explore new ways to support neighbors throughout the city.

“Where do I take my trash?”

During the pause in residential trash collection, the City has opened 60+ temporary drop-off sites for residents to bring bagged household trash. These locations are open Monday through Saturday from 6am-10pm and free to all residents.

We created this simple, searchable map to help you and your neighbors find a location closest to you. For official updates and city-provided resources, visit: phila.gov/sanitation

Tips and Suggestions:

  • 60+ temporary sites only accept trash. 6 permanent convenience centers also accept recycling.

  • Help a neighbor who may not be able to get to a drop-off site easily.

  • Report illegal dumping or hazards to 311.

GLITTER IS A NEIGHBOR-POWERED SERVICE FOUNDED IN PHILLY.

Since 2021, we’ve helped residents crowdfund affordable weekly cleanings on their blocks—while creating living wage jobs for people facing barriers to work. Over 1,200 Philadelphians contribute to Glitter cleanings every month to create a better community for themselves and their neighbors.

Right now, as the city and union work toward a resolution, we’re stepping up where we can. We’re can’t and don’t want to replace public services. We’re here to support neighbors, reduce harm, and keep blocks looking their best before, during, and after this challenging moment. If you are concerned that you would be crossing a picket line if you use one of these drop off sites, please keep your trash securely on your property until this work stoppage is over.

When curbside collection and street sweeping pause, litter piles up fast. Glitter’s neighbor-funded cleaning crews already care for 350+ blocks every week. If you’re interested in how we can help you and neighbors on your block, sign-up today or get in touch.

“WE BUILT GLITTER TO SUPPORT CLEANER BLOCKS AND STRONGER COMMUNITIES. WHILE CITY SERVICES ARE PAUSED, WE’RE HERE TO HELP NEIGHBORS STAY INFORMED AND TAKE SMALL STEPS TOGETHER.”
